Prospective Exchange Students

RPI welcomes students from partner universities around the world to study for a semester or full academic year.

If you are interested in attending RPI as an exchange student:

  • You must be enrolled at one of our Exchange Partner Institutions.
  • You must first be nominated by your home university’s international office before submitting an application.
  • Please check with your international office to confirm your eligibility.

RPI does not offer a visiting student program and does not accept free movers outside of formal exchange agreements.

Step 1: Nomination

  • Your home institution must nominate you for exchange.
  • Once nominated, you will receive an email with a link to the online RPI application.

Step 2: Submit Application Materials

(All documents are submitted online—no hard copies required.)

Required Materials

Copy of the identity page (valid at least 6 months beyond program end date).

  • Estimated minimum: US $8,600 per semester for living expenses (room, board, basic expenses).
  • Does not include travel, personal trips, or the required laptop
  • Acceptable documentation:
    • Bank letter verifying funds available in your account, OR
    • Bank letter verifying funds in your parent/sponsor’s account + sponsor letter stating the money is for your support.
  • All amounts must be listed in U.S. Dollars.

Verification Form + one of the following minimum scores:

  • TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition): 88
  • IELTS: 7.0
  • Duolingo English Test: 115
  • PTE: 59
